Ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy, the main components of which are iron and silicon (from 20 to 90%). It is used not only as an alloying material, like most ferroalloys, but also as a deoxidizing material. Increases steel hardness and tensile strength. Ferrosilicon is a large group of alloys of the Fe-Si system and is intended primarily for deoxidation and alloying of steel. It is widely used in the foundry industry in the production of iron and steel castings. Powdered ferrosilicon is used as a weighting agent for an aqueous suspension in mineral processing, as well as for the manufacture of welding electrodes.
